All great questions. Sometimes an entrepreneur knows that they want to be an entrepreneur, but they do not always know what to do or how to do it. My philosophy of #BUSINESSUNLEASHED is a way to unleash ideas, emotions, processes, tactics and strategy so that you have a direction, goal and the mindset to move forward without having to look back. #BUSINESSUNLEASHED is all about skillset, toolset and mindset.
WHAT IS AN ENTREPRENEUR ANYWAYS? WHAT IS THE DEFINITION OF A BUSINESS?
An entrepreneur is “a person who organizes and manages any enterprise, especially a business, usually with considerable initiative and risk.” So, what does that mean? If you’re someone that is willing to take risks and hustle to implement a business, then you would be defined as an entrepreneur. A business is a system that brings value to life. For example, someone selling flowers exchanges flowers for a currency that can be exchanged for other things. Both parties get value from that transaction.
So, now that we have defined the terms, where do we go from here? #BUSINESSUNLEASHED has three steps:
STEP 1 - MINDSET
This process starts at the moment you begin thinking about a business. The problem most of us have is not a skillset issue, it’s really a mindset issue. We let doubt, unbelief, fear and other feelings creep in a destroy our future before we ever take a step forward. It all starts in your mind. I believe that controlling emotions before they control us is vital. Mindset also includes your vision. You have to make a decision of what business you want to create, where you can create the most value for people. The problem that many of us have is that we have too many skills and passions rather than just one. I’ve seen those that have a singular passion and skill become much more successful than those with many who were paralyzed by indecision. Maps and plans are designed in the mind first!
STEP 2 - SKILLSET
Understanding your strengths and weaknesses are going to help you more than you could ever guess. For example, if your strength is not numbers, then getting experts in that area to help you will be vital. If your strengths are not sales, then again, you have to find those experts to help fill in the gaps. This also involves sometimes developing new skillsets as well as deciding what’s worth your time and what’s not. It’s been my observation that success comes to those who focus. Whether that focus is on a product, a service, a process; typically, success results from continued focus on a specific goal and creating the proper skillsets surrounding those goals.
STEP 3 - TOOLSET
This is the step that most entrepreneurs focus on. This is the “how-to” or operational aspect of creating your business. This is sometimes referred to the business plan and associated tasks related to creating a company. Where MINDSET focuses on thoughts and decisions and SKILLSET focuses on the action or execution related to those decisions, TOOLSET includes all the processes, procedures, business plans and tasks related to implementing and running a business.
A business cannot be created or achieve growth without all three of these steps. Did you know that for every single degree an airplane flies off course, it will miss its target landing spot by 92 feet for every mile it flies? So a flight from New York to London, would put you over 60 miles off course if no course correction was made. Wow! Even course corrections in vision, strategies and processes can have a huge impact on our businesses.
